If you have decided on an add-on back, you will need to allow for this. If the chosen back takes up seat space in front of the back uprights, you will have to add that amount back into the formula. If not, you will be scratching your head wondering why the seat appears so short on the finished product.
Remember that you have to keep the new dining chairs looking good. How feasible is this if you bring home dainty white chairs that call out to dirt and spills? How much effort will you have to put into a new chair to keep it clean, to keep those scrolls thoroughly cleaned, and maintain upkeep? By gauging your own willingness to spend more or less time on your furniture upkeep you can narrow down your choice.
If you are a more crafty person you are able to make your own chair leg covers. All you are going to need is a small piece of a heavy fabric like felt, denim, or faux fur. To begin you will need to cut a 4" diameter circle. Take the circle and hem it by folding the fabric under a quarter of an inch twice and stitch around the hem. Place an 8" elastic strip next to the edge of the hem and stitch around it.
